The low sun of the fall starts to cast some deep shadows across the valley in the afternoons. The work train is starting to cross the curved bridge located west of Wolcott. In the right light you can still read the large block letters that cover all three spans with "D-R-G-W-R.-R. T-H-E R-O-Y-A-L G-O-R-G-E R-O-U-T-E". |
| The Herzog clean-up train was holding the main at Wolcott along with a UP hi-rail vehicle. The work train was lined through the siding so they could drop off 30 of the 52 cars they brought from Glenwood Springs. |

After the work train had left 30 gondolas in the east end of the Wolcott siding, the brakeman tied down a number of hand brakes and then a derail was placed on the west end of the cut of cars to protect the mainline. The Herzog train was fully loaded and as soon as the hi-rail vehicle cleared out, they started to unload their train into the gondolas. |
| Quite a bit of development has taken place in the Vail Valley since the last trains passed over the rails. The work train is passing rent controlled "employee housing" while the mulit-million dollar trophy homes are along the golf course above the interstate. |

The residence under construction above the work train is one that I designed at work, so this image has a bit of personal interest. I like the nice side view of the train much better though. |
