Work Train to Minturn
( Part 4 )

Leaving Minturn...
When was the last time you saw Rio Grande power going by the crew quarters at Minturn?

There are two tall bridges that cross the Eagle River west of Minturn.  This is the second bridge that a westbound train crosses and denotes the entrance to the River Run condo complex.  I bet the residents there would really appreciate a loaded coal train going by in the wee hours of the morning in Run 8.

Speaking of residents of the Vail Valley, if UP starts running trains over Tennessee Pass again they should probably have a number of Operation Life Saver presentations and a media blitz about why you should NOT walk down the middle of the railroad tracks with your dogs loose and your walkman on full blast.

I thought I was going to see some potential Darwin Award winners today.  "No, sir, you do not have time to go across the bridge before the train gets here."  "Yes, ma'am, they still can run trains through here, I don't know why your real estate agent told you differently...."

Crossing the Eagle River west of Minturn...

Approaching East Avon.... The sun was setting fast and the temperature was dropping quickly.  I noticed that the crew no longer had the windows open on to the cab as they headed down valley towards Avon.

This was about it for decent light to photograph the work train.  The whine of dynamic brakes denoted the passing of the work train through Edwards near the rest area.

I know that there will be a repeat performance of this work train since they left 22 empty cars in Minturn.  Here's hoping that Rio Grande power makes it back to Minturn again...
